Based in Metro Detroit, RJ Jones is a Certified Professional Photographer who is the lead portrait and event photographer for RJ & Cheryl Photography and Artistic Boudoir Photography

He and his wife, Cheryl Carvery-Jones, work as a team to provide competent, courteous, and consistently high levels of professional photography services to their clients.

Recently, RJ was surprised by joy when the KickstART Gallery in Farmington, Michigan, hosted his first solo art exhibition. Curated by Ted Hadfield, owner of Art Pack, and entitled “Liberating & Uplifting Self-Expression,” RJ's exhibit featured diverse portraits from his studio portfolio.

According to Curator Hadfield, "There is a beautiful duplicity in his photos that are at once of a comfortable resolve and of a gentle confrontation with self that is shared with the observer.”

This incredibly inspiring feeling of his first exhibition experience is something RJ wants to share with others. Therefore, as he prepares to teach photography to inner city children ages 6 to 12 during the 2022 RPBC Summer Day Camp in Detroit, he is working with Crain Communications and various other Metro Detroit businesses, organizations, and individual donors to organize a photography exhibition for the children. This exhibition will be held during the month of September 2022 at The Gallery at Brewery Park.

This unique and exciting exhibition will explore how pictures and picture-taking have defined and impacted the children’s lives as well as how they themselves can harness the power of visual storytelling to transform their community and world.

As a passionate and fun photography teacher, RJ offers premium one-to-one photography mentoring and he teaches a weekly photography class in Southfield, which is regularly attended by several pro and amateur photographers from the Detroit Metro area and beyond.

Occasionally, the weekly class also features special guest speakers on important topics ranging from fashion photography, wedding photography, and macro photography to fine art black-and-white printing and how to run a successful photography business.

As a photography instructor, RJ aims to help students of photography develop the kind of knowledge, skills, and awareness needed to shoot their own vision competently, creatively, and consistently.

He also emphasizes the need for the kind of art appreciation and visual literacy skills that not only open the minds of photographers to unlimited creative possibilities, but also enables photo critics to cultivate informed, insightful, and even inspiring opinions of the diverse works of other photographers.

This very open-minded approach to the history, art, science, and business of photography is extended to the more than 5,000-member "Michigan Photographers" group on Facebook, which RJ founded during the coronavirus lockdowns in late 2020.

One of RJ's favorite pastimes is bird photography because it's a great way to enjoy nature while learning how to be truly patient and fully present.

He thoroughly enjoys spending time with 'the phenomenal woman of his dreams.' So, you will nearly always find him with his beautiful wife and fellow photographer, Cheryl Carvery-Jones, close by his side.

In their lives and work, both RJ and Cheryl are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
